The treaty right to health is formally entrenched in Treaty 6 to which Onion Lake Cree Nation is a signatory. Treaty 6 provides the medicine chest clause that the federal government has a responsibility to provide comprehensive health services to Onion Lake Cree Nation Members.
Self Determination in Health is a recognized inherent right of First Nations People. The Onion Lake Health System and its governing Board, the Onion Lake Health Board Incorporated (OLHBI), were established by the exercise of the right under the Onion Lake Cree Nation’s Chief and Council.
