Job Description

Moosomin First Nation School is Pre – K to grade 9 and is located 30 kilometers north of North Battleford Saskatchewan. Moosomin First Nation Education Council (MFNEC) is dedicated and culturally rooted to furthering academic, cultural and language pride of all students.  MFNEC is accepting all applications for the 2022 – 2023 school year for the Cree Language teacher position, preferably teachers that speak the Plains Cree “Y’ dialect. Placement of the successful candidate will teach Pre – K to grade 9.



  • Must hold a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.).
  • Possess a Teacher Professional “A” Certificate.
  • Certificate in Indigenous Language/Cree Language or equivalent would be an asset.
  • Must provide a criminal record (CPIC) and vulnerable sector check.
  • Possess a valid Saskatchewan Driver’s License.
  • Previous experience teaching Cree in elementary and middle years.
  • Cree language competency and a desire to support students in their language development.
  • Open to learning the in-depth knowledge of culture, language, history, society, and rights of Moosomin First Nation.
  • Preference given to candidates having experience working with First Nation students and communities.
  •  Knowledge of First Nation education issues, challenges, and delivery models.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess a strong work ethic and be dependable and reliable.


The Cree Language Teacher should have the ability to use Traditional Cree learning theory and technical knowledge to teach students, provide professional development for teachers, and create educational resources.  The Cree Language Teacher will be responsible for:

  • Compose and edit written educational materials.
  •  Implementing the training and evaluating the effectiveness of the curriculum.
  • Ability to define outcome and indicators
  • Create the learning environment and content materials.
  • Ability to work closely with colleagues and educators to determine needs throughout the design/planning process.
  • Communicate effectively in Cree orally and written
  • Plan and organize language activities for Pre – K to grade 9 programs before, during and after school.
  •  Use various language teaching strategies for mentoring students, teachers’, and teacher assistants.
  •  Assessing student Cree Language development throughout the school year (grading).
  •  Data management (report cards).
  • Managing student attendance records.
  • Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and challenges of Cree Language in the classroom.
  • Supervise and co-ordinate school wide language activities.
  • Host professional development for teachers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
