Job Summary: The nurse will work under the general guidance and direction of the Community Health Coordinator with specific direction from the Regional Medical Health Officer. This position will work very closely with the on-site Nurse Practitioners. This program demands the utmost in confidentiality and secure record keeping.
Job Duties:
· Works with CD nurse on case finding and contact tracing on all positive lab results related to Sexually Transmitted Diseases, STIs and Blood Borne Pathogens (BBP).
· Provide education to client and contacts specific reportable disease including mode of transmission, incubation, period of communicability, and methods of control
· Complete and submit Communicable Disease Reporting Forms to the MHO office with a copy to the EMR.
· Provide pre and post test counseling for HIV and Hepatitis C testing; HIV/HCV verification, management, support and counseling.
· Make appropriate referrals to outside agencies following collaboration with the Nurse Practitioner, or Medical Health Officer.
· Provide education related to healthy sexuality to age-appropriate groups within the school age population.
· Provide education on sexuality, women’s issues, and communicable diseases when requested by other team members, by community agencies, and the community in general.
· Provide education and awareness on HARM Reduction principles, pre and post-test counselling, Know Your Status promotion in the community.
· Monthly statistical report and monthly planning calendar will be submitted to the Community Health Manager.
· Provide holistic assessment and counseling to all self-identified pregnant women; Provide educational opportunities for expectant families.
· Follow-up with high-risk infants and families as required and based on assessment of risk.
· Prepare and present classes/awareness specific to the needs of the family within the postnatal period.
· Maintain Inoculist Certification for adult clients and to help in baby clinics, when needed.
· Prepare and deliver informational sessions on Know Your Status at the High School. RN will work with Indigenous Services Canada facilitators on education and testing
· Plan and organize days for testing of STI’s and HIV/Hep.C at the high school.
· To perform treatment procedures that are within the scope of practice of an RN, and under the direction of the local physician or NP, or written orders from outside physicians, as needed.
Job Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred. Consideration will be given to a Registered Nurse diploma.
· Registration with both the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association and the Alberta Association of Registered Nurses.
· Understanding and Knowledge of First Nations Culture.
· Strong ability to teach in both individual and group settings.
· Strong ability to communicate effectively with all members of the heath team.
· Current CPR, WHMIS, TDG, Valid Driver’s License, Driver’s Abstract, Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
