FAMILY WORKER – SAFETY SENSITIVE
JOB SUMMARY
The Family Worker uses family systems theory to assess and maintain the balance between protecting children and strengthening and maintaining the family unity. Under the supervision of the Child Protection Supervisor, the Family Worker carries out the mandate of The Child and Family Services Act of Saskatchewan. You will use a strength-based approach to gather, analyze and interpret child and family information to formulate assessments for the purpose of case planning. The Family Worker must continually assess the immediacy of risk, make key decisions in consultation with the Supervisor and respond in a timely manner. In addition, the worker will coordinate and/or provide direct service to the family using an evidence-based approach. The Family Worker uses family-based systems theory to assess and maintain the balance between protecting children and strengthening the family unit. You will use your knowledge and skills to document case facts and present evidence in court as necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Using a Family Centered Case Approach:
· Identify, document and respond to physical, emotional and behavioral indicators of abuse, neglect and emotional injury
· Perform Structured Decision Making Risk assessments (SDM) at all required points in the life of a case file
· Assess strengths and needs of children and families in collaboration with the family while assisting to increase protective factors and decrease risk factors
· Conduct face to face interviews with children and families to assess risk and safety
· Provides referrals, support, guidance and problem solving to clients to address issued related to family functioning
· Organizes, arranges and conducts case conferences and/or participates in Family Circles
· Assist clients to build skills and find solutions to stabilize family function while mitigating risk to children
· Support clients by building confidence and skills in their abilities
· Provide supports, referrals and guidance to available services to stabilize family functioning
· Assist clients to increase protective factors and decrease risk factors in their environment
· Consults with Supervisor as required, documents discussion and outcomes of consultation at required decision points
· Ensures all documentation is complete as per Family Centered Case Management Policy and file standards
· Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of services and supports in addressing the identified risk factors
· Utilize computer systems (MCase) for case management purposes, inputting all required case information
· Attendance at court to give testimony to cases facts
· Ensure the development of a safety plan and required supports are identified within the plan
· Participate in the intake and on-call schedule for after hour services on a rotational basis
· Provides updated client information to the Administration Unit to ensure accuracy of payments
· Other duties as assigned
