Treaty Six Education Council is accepting applications for a part-time Treaty, Language and Culture (TLC) Coordinator. Duties will commence on August 23, 2023.

Qualifications

-   Minimum Bachelor of Education; Masters of Education (preferred)

-   Certified to teach in Saskatchewan

-   Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation

-   Successful experience in First Nations schools/organizations

-   Teaching Treaties in the Classroom (or willing to take the training)

Required Skills, Talents, Abilities

-   Ability to work with Leaders, Elders/Knowledge Keepers, TLC teachers and other school staff

-   Strong oral and written communication skills

-   Strong computer skills including incorporating education technology in the classroom

-   fluent in the Cree language (‘y’ dialect), a strong cultural background, and a great understanding of local First Nations ways of knowing, understanding, teaching and learning

-   strength in implementing land-based learning in the day to day planning

-   ability to travel to member communities regularly

-   experience in developing curriculum 

Duties

-   work as a team in overseeing the TSEC TLC Support Program

-   assist in developing and implementing TLC programs, curriculum, content and plans with schools

-   complete and deliver required reports on a regular basis

-   assist in assessments designed to measure applicable skills of students

-   monitor Cultural Year Plan or other TLC plan with the school TLC Catalyst

-   provide regular meetings and professional development for the TLC teachers

-   provide other services as directed by the Director of Education

Note - The position may evolve to include duties in teacher supervision, literacy, numeracy consulting, or other supports that align with successful candidate’s qualifications and experience
